Sony is commemorating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary with a series of special events, promotions, and activities leading up to December 3, the exact date the first PlayStation console launched. An initial update in September hinted at exciting plans, but the anticipation has peaked as Sony released a detailed schedule and list of events yesterday.

Part of the initial update included the pre-order of the limited-edition PlayStation 5 consoles and accessories featuring throwback design elements and a legacy color scheme that pays homage to the original PlayStation. Also Sony is collaborating with Sony Music to make soundtracks from iconic PlayStation franchises available digitally for the first time. These soundtracks which include titles like God of War, Twisted Metal, and Starhawk are streamable or purchasable from October to January, with a curated PlayStation 30th Anniversary playlist available on Spotify.

There’s also the Holiday event, “My First Gran Turismo,” a free-to-play experience that celebrates the legacy of the original Gran Turismo. This nostalgic offering will include menu elements, cars, tracks, and race events inspired by the classic game.

While these are exciting news, let’s get on the latest update of events, promos, and tournaments lined up. Key festivities include:


  • PlayStation eSports Tournaments – a series of PS5 tourneys featuring titles like EA Sports FC 25, NBA 2K25, Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1, Madden NFL 25, College Football 25, UFC 5, MLB The Show 24 and Guilty Gear Strive. Event will run December 6th until 8th with prizes like exclusive avatars and other game-specific prizes.
  • Free Online Multiplayer Weekend will also be held from December 6th to 8th, allowing all players to access multiplayer features without needing a PlayStation Plus subscription.
  • PlayStation Plus Premium members can enjoy extended game trials for Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2. The game will officially enter the catalog on December 3.

  • Premium members are also treated to an early announcement of the inclusion of three Playstation classic titles in the the tier’s catalog. Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, and Naughty Dog’s PS2 adventure Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy are all set to enter the service on December 10th.
  • A sweepstakes event offering a 30-month PlayStation Plus Premium membership to 30 winners in each participating country. The event will run from December 10th to 23rd. To enter, an active Premium subscription is required and to play any game from the Classics Catalog.
  • PS Plus members are granted 30% off on Sony Pictures Core storewide. This promo will run from December 3rd to 9th.
  • Sony Pictures Core Movie Credit is given to anyone who purchases a 12-month PS Plus membership.
