Call of Duty Removed From PlayStation After Microsoft Buys Activision Blizzard?

In a deal that will change the gaming landscape, Microsoft plans to purchase Activision Blizzard for almost $70 billion, which will make the company the third-largest gaming company in the world after Sony and Tencent.

Microsoft has moved to buy Activision Blizzard in an all-cash deal worth $68 billion to see Microsoft become a larger gaming company than Nintendo.

The acquisition will add Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, Candy Crush, and Call of Duty to Microsoft’s library of games.

It’s an exciting deal for gamers, as Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, revealed that Microsoft would look to add “as many Activision Blizzard games as we can” to the Xbox Game Pass.

It could mean that Overwatch, Diablo, and Call of Duty all get added to the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.

There is no news on whether those franchises will become Xbox exclusives, and we’re not likely to hear one way or another until the 2023 financial year, when the deal will likely close.

It’s not all good news, though, as Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard also means the company is inheriting the ongoing controversies and lawsuits surrounding the treatment and harassment of employees at Activision Blizzard.

Rumors suggest that Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard and board member of The Coca-Cola Company, will step down when the deal finalizes.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard follows their recent purchase of ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda, the developer, and publisher of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises.

Microsoft sees the deal as another step towards the metaverse, an immersive platform that will combine traditional gaming with AR, VR, cloud gaming, and streaming.
