As well as being one of few ‘new’ games to play on the PSVR2, The Light Brigade is worth celebrating for bringing a convincing and consistently engaging roguelike experience to virtual reality. With its gripping physics-based combat, sticky progression systems and comfy controls, it’s easy to lose hours to this delightful surprise of a game.

The Light Brigade is one of the shining stars of PSVR2’s launch. A game that doesn’t feel the need to reinvent the wheel, developer Funktronic Labs instead decided to focus on making the best rogue-lite that PSVR has yet seen rather than get crazy with new systems. With unique, varied classes and brilliant gunplay, the title does a great job of ensuring that we want to keep returning to its chilling, bleakly beautiful environments again and again.

Despite its issues The Light Brigade is a fun and compelling experience. The procedurally generated levels result in the odd situation that feels unfair, but generally runs come and go with enough frequency that there’s a pleasing sense of progress. The gunplay and semi-teleporting motion work just fine, leaving the roguelite structure to exert its usual steady pull.
