SkateBIRD is a skateboarding sandbox game where you play as a Tiny Bird trying to get his master back to play with him through the power of skateboarding, grind on bendy straws, kickflip over staplers, and shred through cardboards and sticky tapes. The more you skate the more friends you will attract, the more birds you have in your park the more perks you will find and together with them, you will somehow find a way to fix your big friends’ life.

Admittedly, my expectations for this game were somewhat low. So long as there were birds on boards, what else could I ask for? And yet, SkateBIRD manages to capture a little of that pure boarding mana, scuffs and all. The controls may skew wide and weird at times, but isn’t it only appropriate? How else would it feel to make a tiny bird steer a skateboard around its owner’s room?

SkateBIRD is a game you’ll want to love, it’s hard to be let down by it. Unfortunately, all of the issues keep this game grounded. Get it for the bird, not so much the skating. Developer Glass Bottom Games made a cute indie skating game, and it seems they’re still supporting the game so it could address some of the issues.
