Ethan Winters has just received an email from his wife who has been missing for three years the message was “come get me” and an address in Louisiana, this leads Ethan to an old decrepit plantation mansion in the heart of the bayou, although creeped out by the situation Ethan still continues his search until he is knocked unconscious by an unknown assailant. Ethan wakes up tied up to a chair surrounded by the baker family not knowing the horrors that await him.

Overall and whilst many will complain at yet another radical shake up for the series, those that value Resident Evil for its horror value will be more than happy with the route Capcom have taken this time round. The changes have been a long time coming, but the final result may well have given us one of the best horror titles we are likely to see this year…finally bringing the horror back to Resident Evil.

If Resident Evil 7 is any indication, the planned Resident Evil 2 remake will remain as faithful to the series’ most successful formula when it launches in the future. Hopefully, Capcom will relinquish its attempts to turn Resident Evil into a mass-market action title, as it simply doesn’t work.
