Pokémon Sword and Shield is not only a worthy start for the series on mainline consoles, but is quite possibly the best entry in the series. With the new Pokémon, Dynamax raids, gyms, and the expansive Wild Area, Pokémon Sword and Shield filled me with a joy I rarely feel playing games.
Bad press aside, I found Pokemon Shield to be a solid entry in the Pokemon franchise. If only the difficulty was a bit elevated for seasoned players.

Pokémon Shield offers a number of new features, not least the Wildlands, with their highly evolving weather patterns that affect the type of Pokémon you encounter. And it’s chock-full of them! The tower rules are also evolving, with authorised Legendaries and an end to the need to string together victories. There are a few differences from Pokemon Sword: 2 Arena Champions, the Rival, the League and Pokemon Exclusives.
For the fans of the series, Pokemon Shield might be not the best opus, but certainly a worthy RPG to try. It’s shorter compared to other installments, but the beautiful design and interface make up for it. More than that, the gameplay contains new elements such as coop raids and other features. I think the difficulty was a bit too easy, so longtime fans may be surprised by how little effort you need to make to catch a Pokemon.
The 8th gen and debut mainline Pokémon game on the Nintendo Switch. An entry that brings back the old gym leaders formula, temporarily missing in Gen 7 on the 3DS. now bringing us to the Galar region, loosely based on the UK, with the DLC Isle of Armor on the Isle of Man. With brand new pokèmon as well as new Galar region variant, a concept introduced in gen 7. Not to mention new mechanics like Dynamax, but missing Megas and Z-crystals. Good game, albeit a rather boring start.
This game is both fun and addictive, staying true to the essence of the Pokémon series. However, the attempt to introduce a more open area falls a bit short. Additionally, the caves are rather uninspired. On the bright side, the addition of raids adds longevity to the game, making it perfect for playing with friends.
Pokemon Shield is an adventure RPG, customize your trainer and go on a journey in the Galar region. Discover familiar and new Pokemon in the game, catch, train them and challenge your foes of Team Yell. Certain Pokemon can be evolved to gain new visuals and moves, besides battles, you can also assign them jobs as a way for them to level up. Play with up to 3 more friends in the multiplayer Max Raid Battles.
