It is very hard to stand out in this crowded racing genre, but Need For Speed Unbound pulls it off. The title is easily the best entry in years and sets a foundation that can easily be built upon. After many years of having an identity crisis, I can see the game evolving from here. With a consistent 4K resolution and 60fps framerate, NFS Unbound showcases what could be the future of the series.
Bringing a fresh new art style to the franchise that we hope sticks around for years to come, this ain’t your daddy’s Need for Speed. And maybe, that’s a good thing. With Heat pushing the franchise in a bold new direction, Need For Speed Unbound borrows almost everything that made that title special and improves upon it.
Need for Speed Unbound feels like a foundational entry for where the series could go from here. Competing across the title’s many events is a blast, and I love the juxtaposed visual aesthetics.

Personally, I don't enjoy so much comics-like presentation of Need For Speed Unbound. The other flaw that I find frustration is lack of balance in gameplay, especially regarding police. On other hand, it's not bad at all, even if I wouldn't call it the best installment in NFS series. It's beautiful, dynamic and has nice visual effects. If you like racing games, then you should try it out; it is so cheap now.
You'll need a connection to progress through the game's story mode, which won't appeal to everyone. Unbound makes good use of the capabilities of next-gen consoles, and it's really quite well done technically. One negative point: the races don't earn enough money to buy lots of cars, and upgrade them to make them competitive! There's a maximum of 1 per class, which is a real shame, because depending on whether you're racing or drifting, the appropriate settings and cars aren't the same.
NFS Unbound has been the latest long running series hit again by slump and detachment from the developers and publishers. While the game feature a few interesting ideas like a more arcade approach and tons of customization, but not only it's bloated by paid content, but the game feels dull and sterile at times. From the visuals of comic-like effect but with no attention to details, with a questionable writing along make it hard to recommend other than discounted by quite a bit.
Having played Need for Speed Unbound, I must say it's a thrilling addition to the long-standing franchise. Criterion Games has brought their expertise back to the forefront, and it's evident in the polished gameplay and attention to detail. The art style in NFS Unbound is a standout feature, combining cel-shading and graffiti art with the realistic visuals the series is known for. This fusion creates a visually striking world that pops with energy and personality. Lakeshore City, the fictional city inspired by Chicago, serves as an immersive backdrop for the exhilarating races and high-speed chases.
