Final Fantasy 16 is a masterpiece. The action-oriented combat is a lot of fun, and the story is engaging and well-paced. I’m also a fan of the world-building, which is rich and detailed. I’m looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds and what challenges await me in the future.
Expected to be released on PC (Steam) in 2024, Final Fantasy XVI can be enjoyed this year if you are the lucky owner of a PS5. We play as Clive Rosfield, who is the eldest son of the Archduke of Rosalia.
The trailers are very impressive, with a hero who never fails to impress. The boss battles combine cinematics and gameplay in an ingenious, fluid way, without cutting back on the excellent direction. A few QTEs are expected but few and far between and not present to make things easier, but rather to punctuate the epic moments.
Each Primordial battle has its share of surprises, with alternating, dynamic phases, shooting, special moves… and graphics and special effects that seem to be very impressive. It might even be better on PC with a big configuration if we don’t have a simple port!
This FFXVI really promises to seduce the fans but also the curious, to watch very closely!
After several remakes, spinoffs and dlcs Square Enix is finally going to make Final Fantasy XVI real.
Set in the land of Valisthea, a land once blessed with abundancy of aether through Mothercrystals, the now dwindling magick resource is the cause of a massive and constant war between 6 kingdoms, seeking control of the last remaining Mothercrystals. Key to control them are the summons/primals now renamed as Eikons, huge and powerful monsters and deities which will take a major role in this new chapter of the franchise.
With each Ekons controlling a certain elements, each of the kingdoms are both seeking to defeat and capture the other’s remaining, as Eikons are the key to hold possess to those precious crystals. Here, the protagonist, Clive Rosfield having failed to fully awaken the Phoenix’s powers as it’s dominant, in favor of his younger brother, is protagonist of a tragedy, tragedy that will set on a dangerous path of revenge against the fire dark Eikon, Ifrit.

For generations, the people of Valisthea have lived in peace and prosperity, harnessing the power of the ethers to conjure magic and using the power of the Crystals to secure a peaceful life.
