Evan’s Remains is a visual novel with puzzle platforming inspired by Japanese adventure game elements developed by maitan69 about finding a missing boy named Evan. Step into the shoes of Dysis as she tries to solve an intricate series of puzzles to unravel the mysteries of Evan and bring him home.

• Every time the players solve three puzzles the game’s story moves forward and new mechanics are introduced. The difficulty increases when more and more mechanics are introduced with the previously introduced ones.

As what is apparently his first game, though, what Schmied has crafted is impressive. Evan’s Remains shows he’s got the skill in design and presentation and a solid grasp on storytelling, so I’m looking forward to seeing whatever his next project may be.

This is all topped off by some beautiful visuals. Pixel art is used to full effect with gorgeous, colourful scenery that is just begging you to stop and admire your surroundings. Combine that with an entertaining narrative and fun puzzling and you’ve got a title which pleases in all the right places.
