Received by the fans in a mostly positive way, Darkest Dungeon 2 adds new mechanics but also removes some beloved ones when compared to it’s predecessor. Perma-death is still one of the main things you have to worry about, so manage your party well and make sure they’re taken care of after each fight to reduce the risk of losing them. The art-style looks great but some of the flair the first game had was lost along the way.
DD2 is an improved formula from the successful first opus. You’ll find the same dark fantasy world, with its cartoonish graphics and rogue-like orientation and it’s both demanding and punishing. Our heroes inflict malus on us, and combat has been improved. We’ve got more possibilities, more content. In particular, the Kingdoms mode, which has been added free of charge, gives you the chance to defend yourself for as long as possible, with building management and upgrades.
