In AC Mirage we find ourselves in Baghdad, with an adventure that is perhaps shorter than the other major works in the saga. But despite this, I really enjoyed the freedom of approach in the missions, a feeling of returning to the roots with a highly developed narrative. And above all… Baghdad. For me, the best city in an Assassin’s Creed so far, with an amazing attention to detail.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage represent a solid step forward in the series, after basically abandoning the root with Valhalla, but also not enough to recapture the magic of the original titles. While the location, Baghdad, is definitely appreciated as well as the choice to focus more on the stealth and parkouring, unfortunately the execution is not adequate. With fairly repetitive missions story and lack of a real charming cast, Mirage is not a bad title if you focus mainly of the gameplay loop.
I think that, while overall reviews are not that positive, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is still a good addition to the series. Mostly because it’s coming back to roots and focusing on story telling and stealth approach. Certainly, some players didn’t appreciate it, as most of recent games in the series feature open world, but personally, I prefer Mirage.
With Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft tries to go back to a more stealth based experience, similar to the first few AC games. Mirage does a few things right like the recreation of Baghdad during its golden era and has a good mix of stealth gameplay and abilities to take down enemies. The most common complaints are about the story being too short and not very memorable.
