EA has announced the next Battlefield game, revealing its concept art and a modern setting. The FPS will see the series go back to basics after the heavily criticized Battlefield 2042 missed its mark with players.

The new untitled Battlefield game was announced by EA ahead of its investor day on September 17. The image that came with the announcement shows a war-torn area, and although EA and DICE have yet to confirm it, fans think they know the real-world location the game will take place in.

Content creator TacticalBrit has shared their feelings on where they think the new game will take place. The content creator posted on X that they feel “almost 80% certain this is infact Gibraltar.” They have even pointed out a few key points of interest between the concept art and a real-world image for players to compare.

Battlefield Returns to a Modern Setting

EA and DICE want to go back to basics with the upcoming Battlefield game. Speaking to IGN, EA’s Vince Zampella said, “if you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it’s that Battlefield 3… Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern.” He stressed they have to “get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Zampella also revealed the team is looking at the 128-player servers and Specialists. “We’re testing everything around what’s the most fun.” Going back to where the series succeded, the team wants to focus on well-designed play spaces similar to previous Battlefield games. And of course, “Specialist will not be coming back. So classes are kind of at the core of Battlefield, and we’re going back to that.”
