Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the next chapter in Ubisoft’s famous Assassin’s Creed series. Developed since 2022 under the name Codename Red, the game was initially set to release on 15 November 2024. However, it was postponed to 14 February 2025, for better optimization.
AC Shadows will take us to Japan at the end of the Sengoku period in 1579. Playing as the historical figure Yasuke and the fictional character Naoe, we will explore a Japan in turmoil during the height of Oda Nobunaga’s conquest. You can choose your approach based on the character, using brute force or stealth.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows: In-depth Showcase of Parkour
About a month before the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Ubisoft team reveals more details about the parkour in an Official Post. One of the main features of the series, alongside combat and stealth, previously discussed by the team in 2024. The parkour in AC Shadows will therefore offer:
Parkour Essentials
The parkour features have been integrated more dynamically. Offering not just a different level of agility depending on the character, with Naoe jumping higher while Yasuke is slower. But parkour will play an important role during missions, as it generates noise. The Igan Recovery Roll and dodge now allow for quieter landings.
Advanced Parkour
Both Naoe and Yasuke can perform directional dodges, with Naoe also able to dodge from a prone position, ideal for ambushes. We will also have other advanced techniques such as the Backward Drop and Backward Roll to descend from high places with reduced noise and without shifting the view.
Sprint Mechanics
Naoe will be the most agile and fastest of the two, capable of performing a Sprint Dodge while running to overcome small obstacles without losing speed. While Yasuke will be the slower of the two, but in return can break through larger obstacles with shoulder charges, all without additional input.
Grappling Hook
Another important feature integrated into the parkour will be the grappling hook available to Naoe. It will not only allow her to move through the shadows upward but also to overcome obstacles and chasms. In addition, she can use a wall run to then hook the grappling hook and reach higher areas.
Conclusion on Assassin’s Creed Shadows Parkour
The parkour seems to have been simplified but offers more variety of actions. Indeed, it is accompanied by a new controller scheme. Where the buttons for dodge and crouch have been changed, and the dodge button allows you to perform several acrobatic actions integrated into parkour.
