Assassin’s Creed Shadows: All the Info from the Ubisoft Forward
Ubisoft also participated in the Summer Game Fest with their Ubisoft Forward event, held on 10th June 2024. The conference showcased some of the publisher’s most anticipated titles and many new updates on Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The new chapter in the Assassin’s Creed series takes us this time into the heart of Feudal Japan, featuring gameplay and showcases of the two protagonists in the latest trailer.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows – The Gameplay of Naoe and Yasuke
During the Ubisoft Forward, the team presented over 10 minutes of exclusive gameplay dedicated to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This gameplay fully showcases the approach of the two protagonists, as well as a portion of the interactions they have in the story. Starting in Fukuchiyama, Yasuke, who while walking through the city, is tasked with eliminating a certain Fujioka, who’s harassing the local people. Thus, showcasing a gameplay based on pure strength with a spiked club, but also a faster and more “elegant” style with the iconic katana.
Moving on to a new mission, featuring Naoe and her stealth approach. With the mission set in Fukuchiyama Castle, the young kunoichi moves through the shadows at night. Between stealth attacks, interactions to turn off the lights or distract the guards elsewhere, and various choices and paths to reach the objective. Naoe, when discovered by the guards, displays her combat style, wielding a sickle and chain as available weapons, in addition to her shinobi tools.
What else do we know about Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
If the trailer shown at Ubisoft Forward focused mainly on the gameplay and the different approaches of the two protagonists, we can also notice some features later confirmed by some news outlets. Indeed, the game world setting appears to be dynamic, thanks to a dynamic weather system, adding an element of unpredictability to missions. With poor visibility that could aid in stealth missions but hinder combat during action phases. Additionally, the changing seasons will not only offer a visual change but will certainly bring a frequency of some weather conditions over others.
Furthermore, in an interview with game director Charles Benoit by Dexerto, he explains how there is a portion of the game dedicated to traveling by ships. However, this is not free navigation controllable by the player, reiterating that the focus of the game is on land. In short, an experience that will see the core of the story away from the sea, but will certainly offer a more frequent change of scenery thanks to the seasons and weather phenomena. Reminding that the release date is set for 15 November 2024 coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
