The long-awaited dark fantasy RPG Dragonkin The Banished is set to launch in Early Access soon, bringing an intense blend of action, deep customization, and a world full of dragonkin warriors. For those eager to get a head start, there is a way. The developers have released a free demo on Steam, giving players an exclusive first look at the game’s combat, world, and RPG mechanics.

While Dragonkin The Banished is set for console release, the demo is currently exclusive to PC via Steam. It starts with the prologue introducing the world and setting up the story. After completing this, players can choose from three pre-built characters, The Knight, The Oracle, and The Barbarian, each starting at level 35. These characters can be customized by modifying equipment, adjusting the Ancestral Grid, managing Wyrmlings, and even leveling up to 50.

Montescail, the game’s central city, is partially available in the demo. In here, essential services like the Jailer for Wyrmling changes, the Dark Merchant for selling items, the Apothecary for potion crafting, and the Jeweler for creating rings are accessible. And for those who love a challenge, the demo includes six difficulty levels and a repeatable endgame activity called Dungeon Purification. Players can also explore two distinct environments, The Perdition Sanctuary and The Sunken Temple, each with three variations. With this much content, players will have enough playtime to last until the early access launch!

Dragonkin The Banished Demo Crashes and Workaround

As with many early demos, some players have encountered technical issues while playing Dragonkin The Banished. The developers are aware of these problems and have already provided some workarounds to improve stability.

Crashes have been reported on 13th and 14th-generation Intel CPUs due to Unreal Engine 5’s Oodle data decompression affecting about 0.8% of players. RTSS, commonly used with MSI Afterburner, has also caused crashes but disabling it should help. On top of that, AMD 7900XT/XTX users may experience instability, though an exact fix is still in progress.

Players running the game in 4K have also reported texture quality issues which will be fixed by the Early Access launch. In the meantime, switching to 2K resolution should do it. However, in borderless windowed mode, the game defaults to the monitor’s native resolution making in-game resolution changes ineffective.

Despite these technical hiccups, Dragonkin The Banished already offers an exciting and immersive RPG experience to most. So download the demo on Steam now and get a head start before the full release!
