Don’t Miss a Thing: Our State of Play Recap for Those Who Missed It!

On February 12th, the first Playstation event of 2025 finally took place, with over 40 minutes of presentations and announcements, here’s our recap of the State of Play!



The State of Play is now the regular appointment for Playstation to present and announce all the upcoming titles for the year. With first gameplay and new IP announcements, as well as a chance to show multi-platform titles. An event that has been happening for 5 years now, with the first event always in February.


State of Play February: The First Showcase of 2025

On February 12th, the highly anticipated first State of Play 2025 took place. With a showcase lasting about 46 minutes, certainly showcasing some fantastic news. From new IPs to unexpected collaborations, DLCs, and Remasters. The event kicked off with a bang, featuring nothing less than Monster Hunter Wilds.

Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto announced the arrival of the additional free monster Mizutsune. And more updates throughout Spring 2025. Remember that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch on February 28th, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. We’ve divided the State of Play into our recap based on the type of announcement.




State of Play: Playstation Exclusives

  • Saros – 2026 on PS5
  • Days Gone Remastered – April 25th on PS5
  • Lost Soul Aside – May 30th on PS5 and PC
  • Dreams of Another – 2025 on PS5 and PS VR2 support
  • Stellar Blade: Goddess of Victory Nikke DLC – June 2025 on PS5 and PC

Among the most impactful exclusives announced, we have Saros, a third-person action game from Housemarque, the team behind Returnal. This game will arrive in 2025. Also, Lost Soul Aside, the action RPG from UltiZero Games, arriving on May 30th on PS5 and PC. An unexpected Remaster of Days Gone for PS5, and to conclude, the collaboration between Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory Nikke, with confirmation of the PC release!



State of Play: New Announcements

  • Tides of Annihilation – PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • Warriors: Abyss – Now available on all consoles and PC
  • Lies of P: Overture DLC – Summer 2025
  • Metal Eden – May 6th, 2025, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • Digimon Story Time Stranger – 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Among the new announcements, we certainly have some unexpected titles. From the Chinese studio Elipse Glow Games comes Tides of Annihilation. An intriguing post-apocalyptic action game with strong Arthurian myth influence. An unexpected spin-off of Dynasty Warriors, with Warriors: Abyss available now. As well as the DLC for Lies of P and the announcement of a new Digimon Story.




State of Play: New Trailers and Gameplay Showcases

  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword – 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • MindsEye – Summer 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – Network Test February 21st
  • Split Fiction – March 6th on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • WWE 2K25 – March 14th on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and One, PC

There’s no shortage of new gameplay and showcases, with some titles that many can’t wait to try. Like the grand return of Onimusha by Capcom, featuring the protagonist Miyamoto Musashi. The announcement trailer with gameplay of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and MindsEye with the cinematic adventure trailer from Build A Rocket Boy.




State of Play: Confirmed Release Dates

  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – August 28th on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • Borderlands 4 – September 23rd on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • Directive 8020 – October 2nd PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
  • SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance – August 29th on all consoles and PC
  • The Midnight Walk – May 8th on PS5 with PS VR2 and PC (VR)
  • Hell Is Us – September 4th on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

And we also got confirmation of the release dates for some of the most anticipated games. With MGS Delta: Snake Eater arriving on August 28th. Plus the highly anticipated Borderlands 4 coming on September 23rd. And a new chapter from Supermassive Games’ Dark Picture Anthology, Directive 8020, arriving on October 2nd.




The First Playstation Event: Fans’ Opinions and Feedback

A showcase certainly packed with many novelties. With Tides of Annihilation and Lost Soul Aside, both from Chinese studios, among the most interesting games. Plus the collaboration between Dave the Diver and Like a Dragon with Ichiban Kasuga DLC. Not to mention the gameplay of the new Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic. And many other games we haven’t mentioned in our State of Play recap.

Althuogh many Playstation fans were disappointed by the lack of real hits among the exclusives, with Saros coming in 2026 and Lost Soul Aside also coming to PC. What do you think about this first State of Play of 2025? Which games surprised you the most? Let us know in the comments!
