Cyberpunk 2077 Announcement, Delays, and Keanu Reeves
Cyberpunk 2077, a video game adaptation of pen and paper RPG, Cyberpunk 2020, was first announced back in 2012.
The game went viral in June 2019 when at the E3 Xbox Conference, Keanu Reeves was a surprise reveal as being in the game. Keanu Reeves took to the stage, and while introducing the game, someone in the audience shouted, “You’re breathtaking,” at which point Keanu replied with, “You’re breathtaking.”
Cyberpunk 2077 has been the hot topic in gaming for a couple of years now, and now it looks like we are finally going to be able to enter Night City after 2020 saw the game delayed twice.
We nearly had another delay in the game very recently; however, the developers working on the game chose to work an extra day a week to get the game finished in time for the November release date.
World of Night City
The game is set in Night City, a fictional city within the Free State of Northern California. The population is in the millions and is the most populated city in the state. Incidentally it has also been voted as the “Worst place to live in America.”
The city is broken up into six distinct districts:
- Watson – Heavily populated by immigrants, here you will find bazaars, markets, stalls, and lots of narrow alleyways.
- Westbrook – A place where the wealthy live, expect to work hard and live even harder.
- Heywood – A suburban housing district for those climbing the social ladder.
- Pacifica – Gangs run riot and poverty is everywhere in the most dangerous part of the city.
- City Center – home to the corporations and the essence of luxury.
- Santo Domingo. The industrial part of the city, full of power plants and factories.

Night City is the city of tomorrow and is the perfect place for those that love technology. Players will be able to modify weapons and even body parts as they explore and discover the world.
Classes, Lifepaths, and V
During your time in Night City, you will assume the role of V, a mercenary that you can customize to your liking, including gender, skills, and history.
There will be three classes to choose from when you play Cyberpunk 2077:
- Netrunner
- Techie
- Solo
The Netrunner is a class that specializes in hacking, programming, cybersecurity, and information gathering.
As a Techie, you will be able to craft cyber technology, including building, repairing, and modifying.
Playing as a Solo, you will be a contract assassin for big corporations, gangs, basically, anyone who is willing to pay.
On top of selecting your class, you will be able to choose your lifepath upon beginning the game, and these are as follows:
- Corpo
- Nomad
- Street Kid
Corpo’s work for corporations and have the ambition to climb the ladder no matter what it takes. They know business, they know money, and they know how to get both.
Nomads start in the Badlands, an area just outside the city. They crave freedom and choice, and in Night City, they find like-minded people.
As a Street Kid, you know the streets, and they know you. Everyone on the street is family and look out for each other. Friends and family are all you have, and you will do anything for them.
Your class and lifepath will affect your way through the game, having an impact on the story, interactions, and your place within the city.
Cyberpunk 2077 Microtransactions
Over the last year, there has been confusion about microtransactions with CD Projekt RED themselves announcing that the game will have none.
That, however, is not entirely true. The single-player experience will have zero microtransactions, but the multiplayer experience will, as mentioned on their Twitter.
Okay, so there will be microtransactions after all. Still, they will only be in the multiplayer part of the game, which is being treated as a separate project from CD Projekt RED and expected to release sometime in 2021.
The company has acknowledged fans’ concerns and has also stated that although there will be microtransactions in the multiplayer experience, they will be non-aggressive. Likely they will be on things like cosmetics, although we will have to wait to see for ourselves when it does get released.
