World of Warcraft – A Journey that Continues 20 Years Later

To celebrate WoW’s 20th Anniversary, the Blizzard team has prepared something big for fans. In the latest WowCast, Vice President Holly Longdale, Community Manager Bethany Stout, and Senior Designer Bret Cocking discussed what’s in store for the players.

A 20-year journey that has recently seen the release of The War Within, with positive overall feedback. And now with the 20th anniversary including the return of some challenging Raids like Blackrock Depths and new bosses. Plus, a host of in-game and shop-themed rewards.

WoW 20th Anniversary – Start Date and Upcoming Events

World of Warcraft’s 20th Anniversary will arrive with patch 11.0.5 on 22 October 2024, alongside Anniversary events running through 6 January 2025. Here’s what you can expect:

  • New Blackrock Depths Raid for 10-15 players.
  • New World Event: Rediscovering the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj.
  • Celebration in the Caverns of Time with numerous activities.
  • The Return of Korrak’s Revenge as a PvP event.
  • New Bosses, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Warcraft, and a host of rewards like mounts, pets, and armor.

WoW 20th Anniversary – Earn Rewards with the New Anniversary Currency

With the new patch in World of Warcraft, a new in-game currency, the Bronze Celebration Tokens, will be introduced. Players can earn these by participating in events and completing Quests. Use them to unlock a range of rewards, including:

  • Coldflame Tempest mount
  • 20-Year Balloon Toy and baby doomlord pets “Lil’Kaz and Lil’Doomy”
  • Transmog inspired by Blizzard’s employee Service Awards
  • Transmog celebrating Warcraft’s 30th Anniversary, themed after the 4 classic factions.
  • Pets and Mounts from Previous Anniversaries: Redeemable from Storekeeper Reginald.
  • Tier 2 Eternal Armor Spotlight: Available for all 13 game classes, each set comprising 9 pieces.

World of Warcraft – What’s Coming in 2025?

With the well-received launch of The War Within, WoW’s newest expansion and the first chapter of the Worldsoul Saga trilogy, players can expect more to come. The two remaining chapters, Midnight and The Last Titan, are slated for faster releases than usual, with Midnight likely arriving by 2025. While the Anniversary events will carry into 2025, Blizzard is expected to reveal the 2025 roadmap soon, with a sneak peek during the Winter update in December 2024.
