Boltgun combines classic Warhammer 40K with a retro 90s shooter, with stylish graphics that will have you ready to slay your enemies!
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is yet another entry in the evergrowing list of Warhammer 40K games by the publisher Focus Entertainment, some which were hit and miss and other not that bad. Now with the license in hand of a rather small and not so much experienced team of Auroch Digital, a Bristol based UK team. The team has created a boomer shoooter, a unique and surely welcomed twist to the series. in the style of early 90's 2.5D shooter a la Doom, Boltgun sees the player taking role of an unnamed Space Marine, on his arduous mission against the Chaos Space Marines and demons of Chaos. There's still a lot to be seen, but from the glimpse seen both in the trailer and early snippets we can clearly see that the game world is fully 3d while enemy models are made with sprites, while other elements are realized with 3d models or voxels, like the exploding barrels. Boltgun like any other game of the genre is a fast paced action fps game, where we'll spend most of our time eliminating everything that will appear in front of us, with a pretty devastating arsenal as you'd expect from a Space Marine. Initially armed with their iconic chainsword, we'll soon acquire weapons like shotguns, plasma rifles and the Boltgun that gives the title to this game. Enemies seems to be pretty varied all coming the from the lore of the franchise with the like of Daemon of Tzeentch, Plague Toads and obviously Chaos Space Marines. The visual despite the retro-look is still definitely modern, with a pretty nice looking lighting effect and an extremely gory gameplay, that in the most chaotic of action could make things a bit confusing. Nonetheless with a pretty modest price of 20€, almost 15€ on keyshop, this intriguing title seems to still hold a few interesting cards that the developer seems kindly keeping them until release, which is fine if only the game has a bit more publicity. Hopefully we'll get to see more of the game very soon, for now keep an eye on it.
If you want to get your dose of nostalgia, this is the perfect time. Set in the Warhammer universe, this upcoming FPS will make you relive the tension you felt while playing retro games. However, although it graphically resembles a title from the 90's, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun will feature modern gameplay mechanics, especially when it comes to AI behavior and gun play. But this game does much more than pay tribute to the old shooters. Bringing the atmosphere and style of old school games with pixel graphics, Boltgun will be full of action and bloody scenes. The higher difficulty levels are quite challenging, but luckily we will have enough weapons and special abilities to help us handle the carnage. For the price offered, this game promises to be fun.
Warhammer 40K Boltgun is a first-person shooter video game that combines the world of Warhammer 40,000 with retro 90s shooter visuals. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive, the game features classic FPS gameplay, putting players in the role of a battle-hardened Space Marine on a dangerous mission across the galaxy. As players fight against Chaos Space Marines and daemons of Chaos, they'll use their devastating Space Marine arsenal to blast through an explosion of sprites, pixels, and blood in true boomer shooter style. With huge levels to explore and the ability to run, jump, and charge, players will shred and slice their way through heretics in a thrilling and intense experience.
Boltgun is a retro FPS in the Warhammer universe that gives players control of a Space Marine armed with a varied arsenal of weapons and the classic chainsword against hordes of Chaos enemies. The visuals capture the 90s style very well in my opinion and the gameplay looks very fluid and fun with quick movements, gore and enemy variety. The game is set to release in the end of this month for PC and consoles alike.
