They’ve had to tank the visuals, the all-important online co-op is flaky, the frame rate is fine until you start going big on bases — just all the stuff we’ve come to expect at this stage, really. If you can handle the issues, or if Switch is your only way to play, this game can still deliver the goods and the quality shines through. However, if you have another way to play it, we’d definitely recommend you do that instead.

Grounded is a fantastic survival game with a compelling core gameplay loop and a marvelous retro aesthetic that is bound to scratch the nostalgic itch of gamers of a certain vintage. On Switch, it’s another one of those seemingly impossible ports that feel magical just by its very existence. However, thanks to its technical issues and stripped-back presentation and performance, it’s hard to recommend to anyone with another system they could play it on.

Compared to other open-world survival games, Grounded features a unique concept: you become as little as an ant, and have to stay alive among dangerous insects. The graphics are quite nice, and the gameplay is fun, especially if you play with friends. I think this game is really a mode for co-op, however, you will enjoy exploring it solo as well. There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained, and the game doesn't force you nor holds your hand at every step.
Grounded is an arcade survival game that plunges you right under our feet... in our garden, in the world of the very small, of insects and other bugs! You play as a human, alone or in local/online cooperation, in a universe where you are the prey: ants, spiders, bees, beetles, ladybugs... you can also find allies! Otherwise, it's all about crafting, building bases, feeding and hydrating yourself, and there's also a story. A very good and original game!

Experience this cartoonish, open-world survival craft and explore a backyard as an ant-sized teenager. Grounded offers a story-line with objectives but you're free to roam the world at your own pace and build bases, whether they are in the open or inside an aluminium can.
