FIFA 17 is a sports football sim game developed by Electronic Arts the 24th mainline game in the franchise it immerses you in an authentic football experience leveraging the sophistication of the new Frostbite engine, while introducing you to football players full of depth and emotion, and taking you to brand new worlds accessible only in the game. Truthfully, FIFA 17, to me, is one of the stronger entries in the last few years from the EA Sports guys and it’s a pretty great game if you’re relatively new to proceedings. It’s just difficult for ragged veterans such as myself to wholeheartedly endorse a game that has been so formulaic for so many years. Somehow I always hold out a tiny shred of hope for something different, and it’s that shred that stings me every single year. All we can reasonably do is pray for more than minuscule hops forward, such as an improved Journey, to punctuate another year of football-flavoured slavery we’ve resigned ourselves to.
That said, FIFA is a wealthy but largely benign dictator. A particularly pleasing returning feature is a cumulative system that recognizes and rewards your own fidelity to the series. Your level in the game carries over from previous versions, and with that comes an instant shot in the arm with free unlocks that dramatically reduce the grind. These include star player loans, attribute boosts, and serious points multipliers to make acquiring the dosh you need to buy big in FIFA much easier.
The PC version of the game is having technical issues at the moment, but if these can be ironed out, then the online modes are a great deal of fun too. For football fans, this is FIFA as you remember it, but there are a lot of reasons to jump back into the series, or to check it out for the first time.
