As a French guy, from the south-west of France, I have to comment on this game! Indeed, Dordogne is a narrative game painted with watercolors (very original), which offers a singular, colorful visual experience, and takes us on a journey of discovery of the rural French department of Dordogne, in south-west France. It’s a region where rivers, castles, flora and fauna offer a real change of scenery. It’s a place where you can recharge your batteries – it’s very touristy – and find yourself in harmony with nature. And nature is still king here, even if it has been invaded by man. This is the soothing experience offered by the Dordogne game: no challenge here, just a stroll where you discover and are surprised. In the end, it’s a work of art that really showcases the Dordogne, and makes you want to go there – the best advertising there is… A game that can also have an educational, perhaps even therapeutic, impact.
Dordogne is a single-player narrative-driven adventure game where you explore the memories and collections of your childhood. Control Mimi and explore hand-painted environments to recall moments, sensations and build your journal to discover Mimi’s family past and experience the narrative.
Gordogne is a soon to be released title developed by UN JE NE SAIS QUOI, and UMANIMATION under the publisher Focus Entertainment, which has dominated the late 2022 gaming space and early 2023, and doesn’t seem to stop now that we’re in right in the middle of the year with other titles. While Gordogne may have been flown under the radar of many, there’s plenty to like in this title.
The game is shown through the eyes of Mimi, a young woman who decided to trace back to her grandmother’s place after her mother passed away. Here Mimì will start to relive the memories of her younger self and one of the most precious memories in her childhood. Set in the region of Gordogne, in this action adventure with point and click elements, Mimì will explore the place and encounter many people in her vacation. With a few side activities such as taking photos (although a limited amount) and collecting stickers, bothof which can be used in the crafting section to fill her memory album along with composing a poem for each section.
Gameplay is really simple and relaxed, boiling down to click on thing to activate them, open stuff or even selecting one of the mood or impression Mimì will feel at certain screens, choices that seems to affect how she’ll interact with certain characters.
With a very vibrant watercolor approach to the visuals and a very charming atmosphere overall, Gordogne is set to amaze and attract many, but with a very nostalgic story and a few serious themes, such as the theme of separation it will appeal to young and adults. Price wise the title is right at 14.99€, as it seems to be a rather short but relaxed experience, although it’s not unlikely to see soon it to be under 10€ in keyshops.
