Dead Space 2 is a third person action survival horror game developed by Visceral Games, step into shoes of Isaac Clarke the systems engineer from the first dead space game as he wakes up three years after the events on the USG Ishimura. Unable to remember how he originally got there and haunted by the visions of his dead girlfriend Nicole; you must survive another nightmarish outbreak of Necromorph’s.
The interaction of great FPS storytelling mixed with light RPG elements has become a very successful formula and created some of my favorite games: System Shock, BioShock, Mass Effect, Half-Life and now Dead Space. The plotline of DS2 is clearly setting up for another sequel, and though I just finished playing this one, I’m already looking forward to the next. Bring it on!
Survival horror may be a dead genre, or a dying one, and other than improving its personal formula (which it does very well), Dead Space 2 doesn’t offer that much in the way of innovation. Chances are likely that once you start playing it though, you’ll be scared enough that you won’t care—or even be aware of a difference.
