Arcana of Paradise —The Tower— is a recently released title by Shueisha Games, by the hand of the team at Tasto Alpha, with the collaboration of the rather young debutant Masaoki Shindou, author ofRuriDragon, as the artist for the game design and characters. Arcana of Paradise is a rather simple yet interesting title, that has a group of children atop a tower dreaming of reaching the Paradise, said to be at the base of said tower. But the tower is inhabited by ferocious monsters and enemies. In this card game we'll guide those children into the exploration of the tower, by forming a duo from the limited initial cast, as we delve deeper not only to find a way out but also trying to manage the survival of the kids by finding resources and the ever needed Bread, the currency of the game and the only way to keep their hunger in check. ALong the way we'll find resources, discover more about the lore, save childrens and gamble each time to push deeper and deeper. With 3 class available to each characters, along with their unique traits and bonus to the cards, we'll have the Swordsman the typical attack based class, the Mage the more technical class with elemental attacks infusions and healing, and the Diviner who's able to combine hand seals and debuff enemies. Each fight will work in real time, with us drawing 4 cards at a time and selecting the cards we're gonna use in real time, thus discarding the unused one and drawing 4 more cards. All the while keeping up any combo or chain reactions in mind, on top of enemy actions. Of course each action is dictated by the cards, thus any shielding, healing and attacks need to be selected via card. Visually pretty pleasing, with a good soundtrack and a rather interesting story makes this rather unique mix of cardgame, roguelike elements and survival an interesting game for sure. With an honest price to boot of 20€, already available at about half the price on some keyshops, not to mention a Demo for those interesting in giving it a try and decide for themselves.
