Take command of your army and storm through medieval Europe in Ancestors Legacy, a real-time strategy game inspired by historical events. Lead Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Germans, or Slavs across vast battlefields, using advanced tactics, terrain advantages, and streamlined base management to secure victory. Experience brutal medieval warfare up close with the cinematic battle camera, all rendered in outstanding detail with Unreal Engine 4.
Problems such as fairly samey missions: getting a base, building a base, building a mega army, to then overwhelm their base, and there are a fair few missions like that in this game. But, all in all, Ancestors adds enough of a twist to that classic formula to keep most RTS fans on their toes, while giving them a decent level of enjoyment.
It’s a badass strategy simulator, one with deep gameplay and that glorifies what is maybe one of the most gnarly periods of human history. It makes for a wonderfully executed strategy experience. But I still long for the day that we leave behind this whole “historical accuracy” fallacy and devote our fantastic game development resources to something more deeply imaginative.
Historical inaccuracies aside, though, it scratched my itch for a traditional RTS in a way that will probably keep me coming back.
