Berserk Boy is an upcoming title on March 6, 2024, that combines classic elements of 16-bit games with a more modern style. This title by BerserkBoy Games will arrive on March 6, 2024, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

What is Berserk Boy

This debut title from the indie team at BerserkBoy was announced on May 26, 2021, as an Action-Platformer inspired by the great classics of the genre, followed by the release of the Demo at the end of August. It seems that the game was hit by some issues that caused its delisting, but the team quickly moved and restored the title with the imminent release.

Berserk Boy doesn’t hide its classic influences; the game is mainly inspired by the Mega Man series (or Rockman). Instead of Capcom’s iconic character, we have Kei, who, upon contact with a mysterious spherical energy, transformed into the hero Berserk Boy and will try to thwart the plans of the diabolical Dr. Genos.

Berserk Boy’s gameplay, while inspired by the Mega Man series, offers its own approach. In fact, the game will offer some typical Metroidvania features with secret missions, special areas, and collectibles. In Kei’s shoes, we can also use 5 elements: Earth, Air, Lightning, Fire, and Ice, all accompanied by a combo and chain system that will fill a bar to unleash powerful attacks, which can be further enhanced thanks to upgrades.

With Berserk Boy, we’ll have a graphical style that is both modern, thanks to the animations and visual effects, but also retro with a style that certainly recalls the great classic side-scrollers of the 80s-90s. To accompany it all, there will be a themed soundtrack made by the legendary Tee Lopes, the composer behind Sonic Mania, Street of Rage 4, TMNT games, and Metal Slug Tactics.
