Battlefield Next: Showcase and information from the Leaks

With the announcement of Battlefield Labs in early February, we had the first Playtest period promised in March. With an incorrigible community that certainly wasted no time sharing content in defiance of the NDA. The latest news comes from the most recent Playtest.

Playtest held on March 21, 2025, with the showcase of a new game map, along with many new mechanics. Specifically, we have the Battery map, which some may recall from concept art and small clips shared officially by EA and DICE.

BF Next: Information shared from the new Leaks

From the information shared by the community, we already have some interesting features. From what was shown in the recent Playtest and the one in early March, we can see the following features:

  • Map: Battery is the name of the map shown. A small-medium urban-sized map with a theme in the middle of a conflict. We haven’t seen destruction showcases, but some missing textures seem to indicate many destructible objects and walls.
  • Movement: From what was shown, we have numerous additions to movement. Besides the slide, we can also notice players rolling to soften falls.
  • Gameplay: With fast-paced gameplay in line with the last chapters. Among the new features, we can notice the ability to drag downed teammates. In order to revive them in safety.

This also includes some small vehicles, in addition to the classic tanks on Abassid from the early March Playtest. Where we had a larger urban map that certainly reminds of Karkand and Grand Bazar. As well as the possibility to freely inspect your weapon.

In Conclusion

EA and DICE are certainly not happy with the leaks, trying to remove shared files wherever possible. But it’s already too late, with more and more leaks from the community in defiance of the NDA, as expected.

However, there’s a strong positive sentiment from it all, with many users, both Playtest participants and non-participants, happy about the return to classic urban-style maps. Along with some of the features shown that promise good things. With Battlefield Next expected to launch in 2026, potentially in Q1 of the upcoming fiscal year.
