2025 marks the 25th Anniversary of Age of Empires, or more specifically the 25th anniversary of the first expansion: The Conquerors. A game that continues to have a strong active community thanks to the new Definitive Edition. And the team announces the arrival of the Definitive Edition finally on PS5, in preparation for the new DLC: The Three Kingdoms.
A return of AoE 2 to Playstation after 24 years since the porting of Age of Kings to PS2 in 2001. Announcing 2 game editions on PS5 with:

Age of Empires II: Definitive – The Three Kingdoms Expansion
The Forgotten Empires team certainly has something new with the DLC for The Three Kingdoms. Taking us right into the 3rd century with the renowned and legendary period described in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Offering:
New Civilizations and Special Units
5 new civilizations with Shu, Wei, Wu, Jurchens, and Khitans. Each with its own bonuses and special units. In particular, we have:
- Shu: Archery and siege civilization. With the White Feather Guard infantry unit (Castle) capable of slowing down enemy units. And the War Chariot, a new siege unit with a Crossbow.
- Wei: Cavalry civilization. With the Tiger Cavalry (Castle) that increases in rank for each defeated unit. And the Xianbei Raider, a mounted archer with a charged attack.
- Wu: Infantry and naval civilization. With the Fire Archer (Castle) an anti-infantry and siege archer capable of shooting consecutive arrows. And the Jian Swordsman, a sturdy infantry unit that gains speed and power at the expense of defense at a certain HP threshold.
- Jurchens: Cavalry and gunpowder civilization. With the Iron Pagoda Cavalier (Castle) able to occasionally block melee damage. And the Grenadier, a ranged unit with minimal range capable of launching explosives.
- Khitans: Infantry and cavalry civilization. With the Liao Dao infantry unit (Castle) capable of dealing damage over time to enemies. And the Mounted Trebuchet, a long-range siege unit mounted on two camels.
Regional Units
Accompanied by new regional units that will join the roster, or replace some base units. With:
- Hei Guang Cavalry: A powerful Heavy Cavalry unit replacing the Knight line for Shu, Wei, and Wu.
- Traction Trebuchets: Additional siege weapon in the Imperial Age for Shu, Wei, and Wu.
- Lou Chuans: Additional armored naval unit for the Chinese, Jurchens, Shu, Wei, and Wu.
- Fire Lancers: Infantry unit that occasionally uses an explosive attack. Available for Chinese, Jurchens, Khitans, Koreans, and Vietnamese.
- Rocket Carts: Siege unit replacing the Mangonels line. Available for Chinese, Jurchens, Khitans, and Koreans.
- Dragon Ships: Enhanced variant of the Fire Ship exclusive to the Chinese.
- Heroes: The ability to train heroes in new campaigns.
The Campaigns
Bringing a Three Kingdoms-themed DLC, there are certainly new Campaigns to play. With 3 new campaigns dedicated to the 3 main Civilizations of the DLC, offering:
- Campaigns: Of Liu Bei (Shu), Cao Cao (Wei), and The Sun Clan (Wu) with a total of 15 missions
- Epic Battles: Relive some of the most epic battles from The Romance of the Three Kingdoms
- New Hero Buildings: To train Heroes during the Campaigns
- Interactive Campaign: With a choice system that affects the campaigns
- Difficulty: The addition of 2 new difficulties with Easiest and Legendary.
