A New Frostpunk Game Is in Development and Gets 2027 Release Date
11 bit studios has confirmed that the next game set in the Frostpunk universe is in development and could launch as early as 2027. The developer confirmed the news in a press release and added another title is planned for 2029.
Another Frostpunk game is in development, with developer 11 bit studios announcing in an update featured on Biznes that they plan to release it in 2027.
Currently, in the early stages of development, the team aims to build on the success of the 2018 city-builder Frostpunk and its less popular sequel, Frostpunk 2.
What We Know So Far
Przemysław Marszał from 11 Bit Studios has announced the developer’s plans to release another game set in the Frostpunk universe. However, it’s still unclear whether this will be a direct sequel or a spin-off.
Marszał did, however, confirm that it’s already in development and that they hope to release it in 2027. Excitingly, he also mentioned another “larger-scale title” is in the works and hopes to launch in 2029 – although we don’t know if that is another Frostpunk title.
How It Could Build on the Series
The first Frostpunk in 2018 described itself as the “first society survival game,” instantly becoming a must-have for anyone who loves the city-builder and survival genres. Frostpunk 2 launched in 2024, and although it failed to resonate with fans as much as the original, it did attempt to improve on the story, difficulty levels, and modding support.
Fans and the developer hope the next Frostpunk game builds on the series’ survival mechanics, expanding on the political and moral choices and improving AI behavior.
When to Expect More Info
As 11 bit studios hope to release it by the end of 2027, there’s a good chance we will get a reveal this year at Gamescom or The Game Awards 2025.
The developer will want to get the news out as quickly as possible and get beta tests begun ahead of the game’s launch. It could be as early as 2026 when fans can play it for the first time.
