Deadlock will get less frequent updates going forward as Valve hopes to deliver more consistent patches in 2025. Valve plans to release fewer major updates to Deadlock while ensuring each one is bigger and better than before.
Deadlock has been popular on Steam since Valve opened up its beta in May 2024 with 20,000 concurrent players daily. Heading into 2025, Valve has announced plans to release updates for the game less often, citing the need to be “adjusting our update schedule to help improve our development process.”
Previously, the game was being updated fortnightly, but recognizing that it wasn’t giving Deadlock and its community enough time to develop, Valve says major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. The change should see more significant changes with each major update in 2025.
Impact on Player Experience
By adopting a non-fixed schedule, Valve is hoping to iterate on certain changes internally, allowing the game to breathe between updates, to see how the community reacts to each patch. Players will get more substantial content in each update, which should offset the longer intervals between updates.
Valve’s aim in 2025 is to enhance the game’s quality and address player concerns more effectively. More than ever, players are encouraged to engage with the community and provide feedback to help shape Deadlocks’ future.
Future Expectations for Deadlock
A release date is still not known, but the recent shift in the update schedule could see Valve work on new game modes, heroes, and system overhauls. Deadlock currently has 22 heroes and four modes for competitive and casual players.
To get into the Deadlock beta, Valve may send out a random invitation, otherwise, you will need to wait for a friend invitation from someone already in the beta. To prepare yourself for when you can play it, you can read everything you need to know about the MOBA in our in-depth article here.
