StarCraft’s rumored open-world shooter is all but confirmed after Blizzard posted a job ad for a Design Director of Innovation for an unannounced game. Blizzard has wanted to release a StarCraft shooter since 2002, with one now closer than ever.

StarCraft could finally get a new entry as Blizzard has posted a job ad looking for an Associate Design Director on an unannounced game. The ad describes the person coming in as “the vision holder and owner of key strategic innovations on an upcoming open-world shooter game.”

Blizzard has not revealed the shooter, but rumors hint at a StarCraft shooter, with former Far Cry producer Dan Hay at the helm. Blizzard has floated a StarCraft shooter since 2002, with a first attempt canceled after multiple delays.

A New Era for StarCraft Fans

In September, Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier told IGN that a StarCraft shooter was in development, stating “StarCraft is not dead.” Blizzard’s first attempt at one was in 2002, with StarCraft Ghost, a tactical-action game canceled in 2006. Another attempt was canceled in 2019 after Blizzard decided to focus on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2.

StarCraft fans are excited at the prospect of a new game in a franchise they thought Blizzard had abandoned.
