Konami and FIFA have announced a partnership as FIFA looks to the future following its split from Electronics Arts. Following its split with EA and the long-running FIFA series two years ago, football’s international governing body has reportedly been working on its own football sim after EA launched its EA Sports FC brand. FIFA has remained silent on a game it’s supposedly developing with 2K Games but has now announced a new partnership with Japanese developer Konami.

The Konami and FIFA partnership will see the two come together to hold esports tournaments, beginning with the FIFAe World Cup, which kicked off on October 10 with in-game qualifiers. Neither Konami nor FIFA have revealed if the collaboration will extend into new licensed games.

Konami FIFA collaboration Explained

Football fans worldwide await news on the upcoming FIFA video game, with the sports rules maker still yet to reveal if and when it’s coming. In the meantime, FIFA has partnered with Konami to hold esports tournaments. The first tournament is FIFAe World Cup 2024, which players can enter through in-game events in Konami’s eFootball on console and mobile. To enter, players can visit the eFootball site here.

The FIFAe World Cup 2024 is open to 18 countries and regions, with the winner crowned FIFAe World Champion later this year. There is no information on the future of the FIFA and Konami collaboration other than this FIFAe World Cup 2024, but it could be the start of something that many will hope can rival EA Sports FC.
