Why WoW’s SoD is the Perfect Time to come Back

Season of Discovery is the upcoming Seasonal content, divided into 4 main phases, to improve the experience of the World of Warcraft: Classic project. A project aimed at recapturing and bringing back the core experience of the 2004 World of Warcraft in a modern updated version.

Season of Discovery is set to be released in the week of 30 November 2023, aiming at offering a brand new experience with plenty of new ways to play, content and new ways to create builds

Season of Discovery: Perfect for a new start

SoD is divided into 4 phases each with a level cap and appropriate end-game content geared toward it. The first one, on 30 November, will set the cap at level 25, featuring a 10-players raid for Blackfathom Deeps. Being capped at level 25 means that several zones won’t be open, allowing more or less everyone, veteran or newbies, to have a similar journey.

Being limited to a level 25 cap, means that you won’t have access to a variety of QoF items, such as bigger size bags, several mounts and most notably the inability for mages to make portals, making transportation a bit harder. Another notable aspect is that Warlocks have access to Ritual Summons earlier than the cap, potentially making them popular for partying.

Content for veterans

For veterans a special loot called Discovery will be part of the game, allowing you to find Rune Engravings used to add new abilities to the classes. As well as optimize the Class Quest and Profession limited to Expert, thus some challenge in creating the best setup for Phase 1. 

Blackfathom Deeps will serve as the main Raid, revamped with 7 new bosses as well as new loot. And while the early PvP is still present, the main focus will be the one in Ashenvale. Allowing to earn honor and reputation to the Warsong Gulch faction, thus allowing to have access to some of the best level capped loot as well as a unique mount.

About Cataclysm

Along with the Season of Discovery, at the BlizzCon stage has been announced the Cataclysm Classic update coming later in 2024. And while SoD has been received fairly well from the community, the same can’t be totally said about Cataclysm. As many hardcore fans consider Cataclysm the biggest cause that has divided the community and aren’t exactly happy of it coming to the “Classic”, as they perceive Classic as the experience right before this very same expansion.

So in the coming months SoD will have the objective to test the waters before the imminent release of Cataclysm, hoping to not cause another schism in the community, as well as bring back together said community bringing a breath of fresh air to the game.
